Shading factor

The shading factor is the ratio of the shaded area to the total sensitive area. It depends on the sun position and is applied to the beam irradiance component.

The shading factor can also be used to calculate the diffuse shading factor, which is an integral of the shading factor over all sky directions visible from the plane. This accounts for diffuse light coming from any direction in the sky.
