Electrical shading loss

The electrical shading loss corresponds to the real shading loss of the PV array, minus the linear shading loss.

When some cells are shaded in a PV module or array, the I/V characteristics are disturbed. The string current is limited by the worst cell, resulting in additional losses beyond the irradiance deficit.

Electrical shading losses are approximated using the "by module strings" option (valid mainly for shed arrangements) and calculated more accurately using the "Module Layout" tool.
