Import projects and components

The tool for importing projects and components can be accessed from File -> Import components on the main screen.

Select a data source

External projects and components can be located in a directory or compressed as a zip file.

Click on the sub-menu corresponding to what you want to import.

There are 2 possible behaviors:

  • If the specified folder (or zip file contents) ends with PVsyst8.0_Data or Data (the standard PVsyst user data directory name), the dialog will display all data in this directory. This is the recommended approach: all project-related files can be imported automatically.
  • If the specified folder does not end with PVsyst8.0_Data or Data\, the dialog will analyze data only at that level. This allows projects, components, and project-related files to be in the same directory, and the tool will detect file types.

Then wait for the tool to analyze the data: a representation of data to import is displayed on the left panel. Your current workspace is displayed on the right panel.

Analyze data to import

On the left panel, data to import are displayed according to the PVsyst data structure. Files can have 4 states:

  • FileName.Ext written in normal font: the file is not imported for the moment.
  • FileName.Ext written on grey background: the file is already imported in current workspace.
  • FileName.Ext* followed by a star: the file is already imported in the current workspace but has a different content.
  • FileName.Ext written in italic font: a same component is already defined in PVsyst's built-in database. So if it is not a custom one, there is no need to import it.

Import a project

  • On the left panel, open the Projects section: projects to import are displayed along with their simulation variants. You can import complete projects (including all variants) or just one or more variants.
  • Click on the project to select it. Tip: use Ctrl+Left Button to select multiple elements.
  • Then click on the Import button. Depending on what you want to import, you may be asked:
    • Whether to import referenced files (referenced files for a project are defined here):
      • Yes: copy the complete projects including all referenced files.
      • No: copy only the project itself.
    • Whether to overwrite files if some already exist in the current workspace:
      • Yes: replace the current file with the imported one.
      • No: keep the current file.
    • Whether to override a component already existing in PVsyst's built-in databases:
      • Yes: copy the component into the current workspace and hide the built-in version.
      • No: keep the built-in component.
  • Wait for the import to complete. Elements you imported (and any referenced files) are displayed in the right panel (your current workspace).

Import a component or another element (Weather data, Shading,...)

  • On the left panel, open the ComposPV section, then open Batteries or Gensets, etc. Tip: you can also import any file from the left panel (such as weather data or shadings).
  • Click on the component to select it. Tip: use Ctrl+Left Button to select multiple elements.
  • Then click on the Import button. Depending on what you want to import, you may be asked:
    • Whether to overwrite files if some already exist in the current workspace:
      • Yes: replace the current file with the imported one.
      • No: keep the current file.
    • Whether to override a component already existing in PVsyst's built-in databases:
      • Yes: copy the component into the current workspace and hide the built-in version.
      • No: keep the built-in component.
  • Wait for the import to complete. Elements you imported are displayed in the right panel (your current workspace).
